Trung Vuong Theatre is one of Da Nang’s best-known performance venues. In June 2025, Tam Quang Minh signed a contract for the renovation of its auditorium interior and stage. The brief was to renew the hall without losing its character: refurbish and reuse wherever the existing structure was sound, and replace only what had worn out.

Auditorium seating: refurbish, not replace

The original seats had solid-wood frames and legs worth keeping. The worn 3 mm felt upholstery and the pressed-wood seat bases and backs were removed. New seat bases are 10 mm solid xoan dao (Vietnamese cherry) and new backs are plywood with a 3 mm xoan dao veneer. Existing frames and legs were stripped and refinished with a three-coat PU system (one primer, two top coats). Damaged legs, frames and armrests were replaced in solid xoan dao to the original dimensions, and the folding springs were renewed.

Flooring

The old carpet was removed and the concrete slab cleaned. The new red carpet is 7 mm thick, 100% polypropylene on a plastic backing, finished at the edges with 304 stainless-steel V-trims.

Stage drapes

The wing and rear stage drapes were replaced with high-grade Taiwanese velvet, hung on D10 steel cable.

Acoustics

The old acoustic foam was removed while the existing frames and trims were kept. New panels at the rear of the auditorium use 60 mm glass wool wrapped in 5 mm cream felt.

Doors, corridors and handrails

Wooden doors and handrails were refinished in PU. Walls around the entrances and the relief wall were clad in 17 mm plywood with xoan dao veneer, with a 150 mm solid-wood skirting.

Associated building works

The same package covered re-sheeting the hall roof with 0.5 mm coated galvanised steel and storm clips, repairs to the aluminium composite ceiling and panels (including around the LED screen), new 12 mm compact HPL partitions in the restrooms, and repairs to the two AHU plant rooms.

Why this approach

Refurbishing sound timber and reusing existing frames reduces cost and waste, and keeps the look the audience knows. The materials are the same ones we work with in our own furniture production: solid xoan dao, veneered plywood and PU finishes.
